Frequently Asked
Common Questions About the myDNA Test
Can’t find your question here? Send it to us and we will reply before you book.
Ask your questionDoes a variant mean I will get the disease?
No. These variants shift probabilities, sometimes only slightly, and they interact with diet, environment and everything else you do. A report of this kind describes tendencies rather than predictions, which is why it is read with you rather than handed over as a verdict.
Is this the same as a consumer DNA kit?
The technology is similar, but how it is used is not. This report is ordered by a doctor, interpreted in consultation against your history and your other markers, and used to direct specific follow-up blood tests. A result with no clinical interpretation attached is where most of the anxiety around genetic testing comes from.
What about my privacy, and my family?
Your report is handled as part of your medical record and is not shared without your agreement. Worth knowing before you decide: genetic findings can carry implications for blood relatives, and we go through that with you before the test is ordered rather than afterwards.
Do I need a consultation first?
Yes. A doctor orders the test after a consultation, so it is chosen for your history and symptoms, not picked from a list. The same doctor then explains your results.
Where are the samples analyzed?
Samples are processed by accredited local and international laboratories, including partners in Australia, Germany and the USA, depending on which panel is ordered.
What happens after the results come back?
Your doctor goes through your results with you in person instead of emailing them. Together you agree a personalized plan, and the relevant markers are retested later to check it is working.
